RailCats Win Season Finale, Finish .500

GARY, Ind. - Stephen Hiscock delivered his 12th quality outing of the season as the RailCats finished the regular season with a win, defeating the Laredo Lemurs 5-3 on Monday night. The RailCats finished 50-50, in third place in the American Association Central. They fell short of the playoffs for the second straight year. The 'Cats added on in the fourth inning, hitting four consecutive singles, including RBI by David Cooper and Klein to take a 4-0 lead. Laredo broke through in the fifth inning against RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock, scoring an unearned run on a bases-loaded hit batsmen. Uriak Marquez belted a two-run homer in the sixth to cut the RailCats' lead to 4-3. Gary added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and two out, Adam Klein drew his league-leding 82nd walk of the season, scoring Trevor Willis to give the 'Cats a 5-3 edge. Klein finished 4-for-4 on the night with a run and two RBI. RailCats manager Greg Tagert kept his streak intact of never finishing a season below .500. His teams have had a record of .500 or above in each of his 17 season as a manager. The RailCats finished 34-22 after falling to a season-worst 16-28 entering play on July 4. |
