Jack Fowler was acquired from the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League on Dec. 20, 2017 to complete an earlier trade between the RailCats and Freedom. Before pitching for the Freedom in 2017, Fowler went 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in five relief appearances with Gary last year. In 28.1 innings with Gary, the southpaw struck out 24 batters and walked just eight. Fowler finished with one save and a 1.42 ERA in 13 games with Florence last season. In 2016, Fowler made six starts and appeared in eight games with Watertown Bucks of the Empire League. He finished the season with a 2-2 record, struck out 34 batters, and posted a 4.32 ERA. He spent the 2015 season in the Canadian-American Association with the Ottawa Champions and the Garden State Grays. Fowler made 13 total appearances (1 start) that season, striking out 21 batters in 26.1 total innings. Fowler played collegiately at Felician College where he was awarded the 2014 pitcher of the year award in the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association.
