Garrett Copeland joins the RailCats to begin his independent baseball career. Copeland previously played two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles system. The 23-year-old spend the majority of the 2017 campaign with Low-A Aberdeen, where he hit .274 in 50 games with 16 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits, while also stealing four bases. Copeland also played one game at High-A Frederick. In 2016, Copeland appeared in 44 games for the Orioles Gulf Coast League affiliate, batting .227 with one home run and 14 RBIs with four stolen bases. He was originally drafted by Baltimore in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB draft by Baltimore out of Austin Peay State and is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. Copeland hit .298 with 12 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases over three seasons with the Governors and was a second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection as a sophomore in 2015.
