Keaton Steele joins the RailCats after four seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization. In 2017, Steele spent most of the season with High-A Fort Myers, going 2-6 with a 5.24 ERA over 17 games (8 starts). Steele threw 56.2 innings at Fort Myers with 30 strikeouts and 14 walks. Steele finished the season with four relief appearances at Double-A Chattanooga. with a 1.29 ERA over 7 innings, while also collecting his first professional save.
Steele spent all of 2016 season in Fort Myers, going 8-11 with a 3.60 ERA over 132.1 innings. He struck out 85 and walked 40 batters throughout the season. In 2015, Steele was 7-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) at Class-A Cedar Rapids, striking out 60 batters over 89.2 innings. He started his pro career in 2014 at the Twins Rookie affiliate in Elizabethton, going 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA in 19 games, spanning 30.2 innings out of the bullpen, striking out 33.
Steele was drafted three straight years, eventually signing with Minnesota after being selected in the 8th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Twins. Steele played two years each at Iowa Western Community College and the University of Missouri. He was an All-SEC selection in 2013 as a utility player, hitting .276 with five home runs, while also compiling a 5-3 record with a 2.83 ERA out of the bullpen.
