GARY SOUTH SHORE RAILCATS MEDIA RELEASE
GARY, IN – The Gary South Shore RailCats announced today that switch hitting catcher Jaime Del Valle has been signed to a contract for 2017. Del Valle, a RailCats fan favorite is set to return for his third season on the South Shore.
Del Valle was limited to 35 games in 2016 after injuring his wrist in the second game of the season at St. Paul and was placed on the inactive list on May 22nd. The native of Barraquilla, Colombia returned to the active roster on July 7th and would go on to hit .270 with nine RBI’s and five doubles.
The RailCats originally acquired Del Valle in a trade with the Evansville Otters on June 11, 2015 and he immediately became a part of the RailCats catching platoon. Del Valle played in 58 games in 2015 hitting .258 with 22 RBI’s adding six doubles and a triple on the season with Gary. Del Valle has also played seven games at first base over the last two seasons for the RailCats.
Del Valle (pronounced Del-VAI-yay) began his American playing career in the 2014 Pacific Association with Sonoma and Vallejo before joining the Evansville of the Frontier League. From 2008-2011 he was part of the Chicago White Sox organization playing for “South Siders” rookie level club in the Dominican Summer League.
2017 will mark the 16th season of RailCats Baseball in Northwest Indiana and the club will also celebrate 15 years playing at their current home “The Steel Yard”.
