GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the acquiring of outfielder Tyson Gillies from the Ottawa Champions of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball (Can-Am League) on Tuesday for left-handed pitcher Onas Farfan.
Gillies was traded from the Mariners along with right-handed pitchers Phillippe Aumont and J.C. Ramirez to the Philadelphia Phillies on Dec. 16, 2009, for All-Star pitcher Cliff Lee. Gillies was assigned to the Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A) in 2010, hitting .238 with two doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and two stolen bases in 26 games. In 2011, Gillies appeared in just three games with the Clearwater Threshers before playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. In 28 games with the Scorpions, Gillies hit .178 with one home run, four stolen bases and seven RBIs.
Gillies was placed on the Philadelphia Phillies 40-man roster on Nov. 18, 2011, and returned to Reading in 2012, batting .304 with 13 doubles, eight triples, four home runs, eight stolen bases and 24 RBIs in 68games. The outfielder spent 2013 between the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A) and Reading, batting a combined .241 with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, six triples, 29 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and 55 runs. Gillies returned to Lehigh Valley in 2014, hitting .214 two home runs, six doubles and three stolen bases in 43 games.
Gillies then signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres on Feb. 27, 2015. The outfielder was assigned to the San Antonio Missions (Double-A) and hit .259 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, three stolen bases, and 15 runs in 61 games.
