WINNIPEG, MB — The Gary SouthShore RailCats (21-18) fell to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-19) on Wednesday evening by a score of 6-4. Reggie Wilson finished with two hits and was the only RailCat to reach base three times on the night while Alex Gunn pitched six innings for the second consecutive time in a no-decision.

For the second straight night, the Goldeyes took an early 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Wes Darvill hit an RBI single to center field to score David Bergin. Bergin reached base on a two-out double. Darvill later scored on a throwing error from James Alfonso. Jordan Ebert later drove in Alixon Suarez for the third run of the inning.

The RailCats clawed into the deficit in the third. Anthony Cheky hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring John Holland. Holland reached base on a leadoff double and advanced to third on a one-out single from Wilson before scoring Gary’s first run.

Gary tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth on Ryan Fitzgerald’s two-out, two-run home run. The homer was Fitzgerald’s team-leading fifth of the season and Gary’s first homer against Winnipeg.

The RailCats took the lead in the fifth when Cheky Jr. grounded into a double play, scoring Kris Goodman. Goodman led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a steal before advancing to third on a throwing error from Suarez.

Winnipeg tied the game at four in the sixth with back-to-back one out doubles. Shawn Pleffner’s double just went past the outstretched glove of Colin Willis in right-center field before Bergin’s RBI double brought him around to score.

The Goldeyes regained the lead in the seventh when Josh Romanski hit an RBI single that scored Ebert. Reggie Abercrombie plated Andrew Sohn with a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give the reigning American Association Champions a 6-4 lead.

Alex Weingarten (1-2) pitched the final two innings for the Gary in his third professional appearance.  He yielded two earned runs on four hits and struck out one in his second straightloss.

Gunn allowed four earned runs on eight hits in his team-high-tying 10th start. The southpaw walked one and struck out three.

Winnipeg’s Zach Nuding got the start for the Goldeyes. He, like Gunn, gave up four earned runs on eight hits. Nuding also walked one and struck out one over five innings. Mitchell Lambson (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four over two innings of relief in the win. Ryan Chaffee (11) struck out all three batters in the ninth to increase his league-leading save total.

The RailCats conclude their three-game series against the reigning American Association Champion Winnipeg Goldeyes on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Westin Wuethrich (0-0, 6.00) makes his third professional start against Winnipeg southpaw Zack Dodson (2-2, 5.68) in the series finale.
