GARY, Ind. — The fifth straight quality start from Charle Rosario wasn’t enough on Bark in the Park Day on Sunday afternoon as the Gary SouthShore RailCats were shutout by the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 6-0, in the series finale. The series loss was Gary’s first since June 19th and just their third series defeat at home.

Mason Katz gave Winnipeg an early 1-0 advantage with a one-out home run to left in the third. Katz’s homer was his first hit of the series and the Goldeyes’ first on the afternoon.

Winnipeg (26-23) added another run in the top of the fourth to go in front of Gary, 2-0. David Rohm singled to center to start the inning before former RailCat Josh Romanski pulled a double down the first base line. With runners on the corners and one out, Shawn Pleffner brought home Rohm with an RBI groundout to Andy De Jesus at shortstop.

The Goldeyes tacked on another run in the seventh to go up by three. Wes Darvill led off the inning with a triple to left-center before Mason Katz delivered an RBI single up the middle, plating Darvill.

Winnipeg scored their final three runs in the eighth. Reggie Abercrombie reached second on a RailCats fielding error to start the inning.  Pleffner brought around Abercrombie with an RBI double off the left field wall, increasing the Goldeyes lead to four. David Bergin then made it 6-0 with a two-run home run off the batter’s eye in center field. The home run was Bergin’s second of the series and his team-high 13th of the year.

Chase Harris and Andy De Jesus led the Gary (27-23) offense with two hits each while Reggie Wilson extended his personal-best on-base streak to 12 with an eighth inning walk. Rosario (6-4) had his season-high four-game winning streak snapped in the loss. Rosario was charged with three runs on seven hits and a walk in his league-leading 13th start of the season.

Zack Dodson (3-3) recorded the win in his second start against Gary. The southpaw tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out five.
