GARY, Ind. – The Gary SouthShore RailCats dropped their third consecutive game after falling to the St. Paul Saints, 2-1, in 12 innings on Monday night at U.S. Steel Yard. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, Wilfredo Gimenez thought he gave the RailCats a walk-off win with a sacrifice fly center, however, Colin Willis left third too soon on the flyout to center, resulting in a double play. Ryan Fitzgerald popped out to second for the final out of the inning and the game went on to extras.
Gary (40-34) took the opening lead for the first time in their last five games with a two-out run in the third. Andy De Jesus recorded the RailCats first hit with an infield single. Chase Harris followed with a walk before Alex Crosby reached on a fielder’s choice, giving the RailCats runners on the corners. Reggie Wilson then made ended the scoreless drought with an RBI single through the left side of the infield, scoring De Jesus for the game’s first run.
Jesse Pratt (2-4) was charged with his second consecutive loss after allowing a run on three hits in a 1/3 of an inning. Brandon Peterson (3-2) tossed two shutout innings in the win for the Saints, who have now won three straight.
