KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced on Monday that they have signed RHP Ryan Fritze.
Fritze graduated from Valparaiso University in 2016. In his senior season, Frtize recorded seven saves, made 25 appearances, and pitched 37.2 innings. In 2015, he made 14 starts, completed 77.1 innings of work, and had an ERA of 3.82 in the regular season.
In the summer of 2015, Fritze made 9 starts and 11 total appearances with the Kokomo Jackrabbits of the prospect league. In 2013 and 2014, Fritze pitched at Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa where he posted a 14-5 overall record as a starter. In 2014, he struck out 73 men in 74 innings.
Fritze recorded his first win with the Railcats by pitching a scoreless sixth inning on Monday.
Gary’s home opener is on Friday, May 26 vs. the Texas Airhogs. Friday's game vs. the Airhogs is a Fifth Third Bank Fireworks Friday and features a free magnet schedule giveaway. The first 1,000 fans receive a free magnet schedule, courtesy of Great Lakes Orthopedics.
