Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (11-9) defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (13-7) by the score of 6-3 on Wednesday evening. The RailCats have now won two straight against the RedHawks.

Fargo-Moorhead scored an unearned run in the first to take a 1-0 lead in game three of the series. After Yhoxian Medina and Josh Mazzola drew back-to-back walks, K.D. Kang bounced into a 3-6 fielder’s choice, however, the return throw to first from shortstop Ryan Fitzgerald skipped into the Fargo-Moorhead dugout, allowing Medina to score the game’s first run.

Gary (11-9) took their first lead of the night with a pair of runs in the third. Chase Harris pulled a single to left to start the inning before Anthony Cheky Jr. pulled a triple down the right field line, plating Harris all the way from first on the RBI triple. Colin Willis followed Cheky Jr. with an RBI infield single for his second hit of the game, giving the RailCats a 2-1 advantage.

The RailCats added to their lead with three two-out runs in the fourth. Back-to-back RBI singles from Randy Santiesteban and Harris increased the Gary lead to three before a bases-loaded walk from Willis brought home Santiesteban, giving the RailCats a 5-1 lead.

Gary added another two-out run in the sixth to go up 6-1 on Frank Martinez’s RBI single in the sixth. The RBI was Martinez’s team-high 20th of the year and extended his season-high on-base streak to 10 games.

The RedHawks slightly closed the gap in the top half of the seventh inning when Kes Carter hit a long home run to right field scoring Mitch Delfino, who reached based on a Santiesteban error to lead off the seventh.

Braulio Torres-Perez (2-0) certainly earned the victory Wednesday as he gave up one run (none earned), on two hits, walked three, and struck out three in six innings of work.

Jorge DeLeon (4) picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.

Fargo-Moorhead’s Dylan Mouzakes (2-2) gave up five earned runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out three in 3.2 innings of work.

The RailCats conclude their four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. 2016 All-Star Charle Rosario (2-2, 4.14) faces Fargo-Moorhead southpaw Tyler Alexander (1-1, 3.71) in the series finale.
