A RailCats veteran, Jackson Smith is back behind the plate for his third season on the South Shore in 2022. Last year, he appeared in 62 games and recorded 19 runs batted in, 15 runs, and 15 walks. Defensively, he threw out six would-be base stealers and posted a .982 fielding percentage.
Smith played collegiately at Corban University and graduated in 2017. As a senior, he torched the Cascade Collegiate Conference alight with .255 batting average, 42 hits, 14 RBI, eight doubles, nine walks, five stolen bases, and seven hit-by-pitches in 44 games. His efforts culminated in a place on the All-Conference First Team by season’s end.
The Westside Woolly Mammoths of the United Shore Professional Baseball League signed Smith the following year, and he compiled an impressive stat line in his first season as a pro. He batted .271 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 45 hits, 26 runs, and two stolen bases. Though he returned to Westside in 2019, the RailCats picked him up at the conclusion of the USPBL season. He appeared in three games at catcher in at the end of the American Association season at went 2-for-8 with one run batted in.
