Michael Woodworth returns to the RailCats after a successful first season in Gary.  In his 31 games in 2021, he batted a team-high .367, including a .317 average with two strikes, while registering 44 hits, two home runs, 17 runs batted in, 22 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.  His .517 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage also ranked first and second on the team respectively.

Before arriving in the American Association, Woodworth played collegiately at the University of Connecticut for two seasons.  After spending his freshman and sophomore years at Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif., he made an immediate impact upon his arrival in Storrs.  He led the Huskies to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and received ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region, All-New England, and All-American Athletic Conference Second Team honors as a senior.

The Oakland Athletics selected Woodworth in the 29th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, and he recorded 51 hits, two home runs, 27 runs batted in, and 28 bases on balls in his first taste of professional baseball.
