In 2019, Mena was called up to the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Low A affiliate of the Mets. He had a short stint there, throwing six innings across two games (one of which he started). In those two games, Mena struck out five and walked none, showing great control.
In 2018, Mena split time between the GCL Mets in Rookie ball and the St. Lucie Mets in High A ball in the Mets' minor league system. He spent the majority of his time with the GCL Mets, where he pitched 20.2 innings across 14 games. Mena sported a 3.48 ERA with 19 strikeouts and six walks with the GCL Mets. With St. Lucie, Mena only threw two innings in his lone outing, giving up two hits and one run (none earned).
Mena was signed as an international free agent by the New York Mets and spent the 2017 season in Rookie Ball for the DSL Mets 1. Mena threw 55.0 innings across 13 games and 10 starts, accruing a 3-3 record. He had a stellar campaign, striking out 50 and walking only seven batters. His 2.13 ERA he acquired that season was the best mark of Mena's career in that category.
