Cuello and Gonzalez Return for the 2024 Season
Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats have signed pitcher Edward Cuello and infielder Marcos Gonzalez for the 2024 season.
Cuello, 25 returns for his third season with the RailCats. The right-hander led the pitching staff in starts (20) and innings pitched (115.2) and was second on the team in strikeouts (73).
In a 3-1 victory against the Kane County Cougars on August 12, 2023 Cuello put together his most impressive outing of the year. He threw eight innings of one run baseball and struck out seven Cougars.
“Last season Edward proved to be our most dependable starting pitcher hurling over 100 innings,” said manager Lamarr Rogers. “At times he displayed the ability and stuff to be one of the best starters in the American Association. In 2024 we’ll be looking for more consistency from him showcasing the talent that allowed him to reach Triple A in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system.”
The Domincan Republic native signed as an international free agent in 2017 with the Los Angeles Dodgers at the age of 18. He progressed through the Dodgers organization reaching as high as the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers.
Gonzalez, 24 returns for his second season on the South Shore. He signed on August 5, 2023, and blasted a grand slam in just his third game with the team. The infielder appeared in 26 games, batted .242 with 23 hits.
“Marcos returns for his first full season with our Cats squad after joining the team late during the last season. Once again adjusting to everyday play after platooning in Triple A for the Cleveland Guardians, Marcos showed positive signs of things to come with displays of power, clutch hitting and above average defensive plays at third base. Also, his infield versatility and ability to play third, shortstop & second base make him a welcomed return to the team.”
The Dominican Republic native signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Guardians in 2017. He spent six seasons with the Guardians organization making stops at every level. During that time he slashed .253/.340/.365.
