Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats continue to bolster their outfield ahead of the 2023 season with the re-signing of Jesus Marriaga.

Marriaga, 24, heads back to The Steel Yard for his third year after putting together a stellar 2022 campaign.  In 71 games, he led the RailCats in runs batted in (61) while slashing .307/.385/.454 with 86 hits, 19 doubles, six home runs, 21 stolen bases, 54 runs scored, and 29 bases on balls.

“The FUN is back,” said manager Lamarr Rogers. “I’m excited to welcome Jesus back to the ‘Cats Family. His infectious smile and enjoyment of the game brings a daily spark to the clubhouse and field of play. An all-around talent, it’s my hopes he picks up where he left off last season progressing towards another opportunity in affiliate ball.”

Earlier this month, Marriaga suited up for the Colombia national baseball team at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, appearing in three games in pool play.  In their matchup against the United States on March 15, he drew a walk against Arizona Diamondbacks ace Merrill Kelly and made diving catches in left field to deny Los Angeles Dodgers star outfielder Mookie Betts and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner of base hits.

Prior to his arrival on the South Shore in 2021, the Cartagena native spent four seasons in the Diamondbacks organization, being named a Northwest League All-Star with the Hillsboro Hops in 2019.

The RailCats 2023 season begins at the Steel Yard on Thursday, May 11 vs Winnipeg Goldeyes. Season tickets packages and group outings for the 2023 season can be reserved by calling 219-882-2255 or emailing [email protected].
