Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats add another catching option to the roster as they sign former Kansas City Royals prospect Paul Mondesi.

Mondesi, 24, joins the RailCats following a lengthy stretch in the affiliated ranks.  Originally signed by the Royals as a 17-year-old in 2016, the New York native spent five seasons in their organization.  In his final campaign, he reached as high as the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

In 2022, Mondesi got his first taste of MLB Partner League baseball, splitting time across two different leagues and playing in 59 total games.  After starting out in the Atlantic League with the York Revolution, he then signed for the Empire State Greys in the Frontier League, where he was teammates with current RailCats Jesus Rosario and Will Decker.

In addition to himself, two other members of Mondesi’s family also embarked on careers in professional baseball.  His father, Raúl, spent 13 seasons in Major League Baseball, where he was two-time Gold Glove Award winner, the 1994 National League Rookie fo the Year Award winner, and a 1995 All-Star selection.  His brother, Adalberto, was a member of the 2015 World Series Champion Royals and led Major League Baseball in triples in 2019 with 10.  He currently plays for the Boston Red Sox.
