(Gary, IN) The Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Chicago Dogs were at the Steel Yard to finish up the series in Indiana. So far in the series the RailCats controlled the series by outscoring the Dogs a combined 33-3 and went for their first sweep of the Dogs since August of 2022. Deyni Olivero pitched for the RailCats and faced Brendan Roberts, who was making just his fourth start.

In the bottom of the third with a runner on each corner, Korry Howell ran and Marc Flores would ground out to second, and it would give him his 40th RBI on the season. The next inning Elvis Peralta belted his tenth home run in the campaign to put the ‘Cats ahead 2-0 after four.

The RailCats scored three runs in the fifth frame as Nick Podkul had a sacrifice fly, Colin Sumemerhill an RBI groundout, and Joe Suozzi with a bases loaded walk. Podkul picked up his second RBI in the sixth while Ozzie Martinez got one to drop in right field and the RailCats led 7-0.

In the seventh with two outs, Chance Sisco earned a walk against Olivero and became the first Dog to reach after 20 consecutive outs to start the game for Olivero. Gary put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh putting up another three spot to push their lead to ten.

Olivero would carry a no-hitter into the top of the ninth and with two outs, Sam Biller rolled one to second where Podkul knocked it down on a slide and a close play at first, but Biller beat the throw and Olivero came a half-step away from the second no-hitter in RailCats history. Ethan Wilder singled to right and Biller tried to run to third but Andy Nelson would fire the ball to third to tag him out and the RailCats won and celebrated a sweep of the Dogs. Final was 10-0.

Olivero throws the eleventh complete game shutout in the franchise’s history and the first since Peyton Long tossed his on July 2, 2025 vs Kansas City. The RailCats outscored the Dogs 43-3 during the series and the win puts them at 35-48 with the Dogs falling to 27-57.

Despite the series at the Steel Yard being over, the two clubs will meet again this weekend with the RailCats and Dogs playing a series at Impact Field in Rosemont. First pitch is scheduled at 6:30 and a livestream of the game on AABaseball.TV.
