A returning player, Jesus Marriaga heads back to Gary for his second season with the RailCats in 2022. A constant presence in the lineup, Marriaga appeared in 80 games in 2021, good for second on the team. His 19 stolen bases led the team while his 83 hits and .283 batting average placed second and third respectively. He also clubbed two home runs, drove in 31 runs, scored 35 runs, and drew 22 walks.

A native of Cartagena, Colombia, Marriaga signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent in 2016 and got assigned to their Dominican Summer League team. He made a good impression in his first professional season as he racked up 70 hits, 23 runs batted in, 10 doubles, 32 bases on balls, and 25 stolen bases while hitting .299 in 64 games. Over the next three seasons, Marriaga progressed through their farm system and earned a promotion each season. He started in the United States with the AZL Diamondbacks in 2017, moved to the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League in 2018, and played for the then short-season Hillsboro Hops in 2019. His .244 batting average, 27 RBI, 14 doubles, 45 walks, and 17 stolen bases helped him become a Northwest League All-Star in Hillsboro.
