(Gary, IN) With the first full month of the season wrapping up, the Gary SouthShore RailCats have announced their player of the month for June presented by Methodist Hospitals. The award goes to third year starting pitcher, Peyton Long.
Over the month Peyton Long made five starts and three of them would be quality. He would log 29.2 innings giving up just eight earned runs with 16 strikeouts and tossing his third complete game in two years against the Dogs. Long’s ERA was a 2.43 in those five starts. The Iowa native is fourth in the league in ERA (2.59), tied for first in wins (six), and has the lowest walk per nine amongst qualifying pitchers (0.92).
“Peyton has been a competitor for us.” RailCats Manager Jeff Isom said. “His ability to limit walks and get deep into games gives us a good chance to win every time it’s his turn in the rotation.
The RailCats continue their series with the Kane County Cougars tonight and welcome in the Lincoln Saltdogs for the Fourth of July weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 tonight, head over to Tixr.com/RailCats or call the park at 219-882-2255 to reserve your tickets!
