RailCats Acquire Local Product Williams from Windy City 

Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats completed their June 16th trade with the Windy City ThunderBolts and added Chicagoland native Donivan Williams to their active roster. 

Williams, an Oak Lawn, IL resident and graduate of Harold Richards High School, was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 14th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.  He spent four years in the Cardinals organization before joining the ThunderBolts in August 2021.   

In his first MLB Partner League Season, Williams played his best baseball as a professional.  He batted .273 with one home run, 10 runs batted in, 24 hits, and five stolen bases in 25 total games.  His .273 batting average ranked third on the team amongst all hitters, and the ThunderBolts went 14-11 with him in the lineup as three of those losses came in the extra-innings home run derby. 

“Donivan possesses all the tools of a top 15 round pick,” manager Lamarr Rogers said.  “On top of that, he shares a family relationship and development history with our coaching staff, who worked with him before getting drafted. This reunion at the professional level should be a breath of fresh air for his career, and I’m excited to welcome him to Gary.”
