The RailCats announced four player signings for the 2021 season today. 

Dugan Darnell joins the RailCats from Northville, MI. The right-handed pitcher finished the 2020 season with the East Side Diamond Hoppers in the United Shore League. With the Diamond Hoppers, Darnell appeared in 22 games with 2 starts, 28.2 innings pitched, 52 strike outs, 19 walks and a 0.31 ERA. Darnell returns to the RailCats after a short stint with the team in 2019, appearing in 3 games, pitching 5 innings with 2 strike outs, 3 walks and a 3.60 ERA.

Right-handed pitcher, Cas Silber joins the RailCats after spending the 2020 season with the Road Warrior Black Sox of the Yinzer Baseball Confederacy. The 25-year-old, Raleigh, NC native appeared in 5 games. Silber finished the season with 26 innings pitched, 34 strike outs, 8 walks and a 3.12 ERA.

Phil Caulfield, 32nd round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2017 joins the RailCats from Burlingame, CA. The 25-year-old infielder played for the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Pennsylvania League (Short-Season A) in 2019. He appeared in 8 games with 26 at bats, 9 hits, 2 doubles, 3 RBI’s and a .346 batting average. In 2020, Caulfield played for the Tully Monsters in the City of Champions Cup and with 49 at bats, 13 hits, 10 runs, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 7 RBI’s and a batting average of .265. 

Catcher, Cameron Comer joins the RailCats from Powell, OH. The 23-year-old University of Virginia graduate spent the 2020 season split with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers and Utica Unicorns of the United Shore League. In 2020 Comer slashed .293/.374/.402 in 92 at bats with 27 hits, 7 doubles and 16 RBI’s.

“Not only have we added 4 good, young players to the RailCats,” said RailCats Manager Greg Tagert, “these signings also signal hope and optimism as we head into 2021 and the return of the RailCats to the field and seeing our wonderful fans fill the ball-park.”
