Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats add another arm to their pitching staff by signing southpaw Ben Miller.

Miller, 23, joins the RailCats after spending two years in the San Diego Padres organization.

During his first full professional season as a member of the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm in 2022, he emerged as a stalwart at the back end of the bullpen.  He led the team in both appearances (38) and saves (7) while registering a 3.58 earned run average and striking out 45 batters in 55.1 innings.  His save and appearance totals also tied him for fourth and eighth respectively in the California League.

“I received calls from a trusted contact within the Padres organization who shared his positive thoughts about Ben’s rising potential,” manager Lamarr Rogers said.  “He’s a tall, lengthy left-hander with a rare three-quarters sidearm motion.  He’ll add valuable depth and a wrinkle to the bullpen.  I’m excited to welcome him to the team!”

Originally from Lodi, California, Miller pitched collegiately at nearby San Joaquin Delta College. Though he only appeared in 10 total games as a Mustang due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he dazzled in limited action.  Across 21.2 innings, he sported a 3-1 record with a 1.25 ERA, 20 strikeouts, an 8.31 strikeouts-per-nine innings ratio, and one save, allowing just three total runs.
