RailCats Can’t Solve Canaries Arms in Tough-Luck Loss

Sioux Falls, SD – The Gary SouthShore RailCats (11-11) could not get their offense going as a stellar Sioux Falls Canaries (9-13) pitching display led them to a 1-0 win.

After the two teams combined four 48 runs in the first two games of this series, both pitching staffs flipped the script on Sunday, allowing just one run.

The game’s only offense came in the second inning through a Trevor Achenbach solo home run, and that was enough to back up starter Neil Lang.  The left-hander limited the RailCats to just two hits, both Gio Díaz doubles, striking out two in his 7.2 innings on the mound.

On the flip side, though Edward Cuello suffered a loss, the Gary SouthShore starter stymied the Canaries en route to his second quality start of the season.  In his six innings, he permitted just one run to score on seven hits, stranding six runners on base in the process.

Jared Price entered in relief in the bottom of the seventh and picked up right where Cuello left off.  He tossed a scoreless 1.2 innings, fanning two batters himself to keep the ‘Cats in the ballgame during the later innings.

On three separate occasions, the RailCats advanced base runners to third base, but unfortunately, they could not find the breakthrough hit to tie the score, dooming them to defeat.

The RailCats and Canaries square off at 6:35 p.m. in the series finale tomorrow at Sioux Falls Stadium.  All the action will be streamed on aabaseball.tv and broadcast over the radio on 95.9 WEFM and the Gary SouthShore RailCats Broadcast Network via the Mixlr app.
