RailCats Edged in Series Finale

 

CLEBURNE, Texas- In the series finale of the Rumble on the Railway, the Cleburne Railroaders (36-27) escaped a sweep with a 4-3 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (26-39) at the Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas. 

 

Railroaders’ catcher John Nester brought home the fourth run of the game in the sixth inning on an RBI-double to left that would ultimately win the game for the ‘Roaders.

 

Cleburne got out to a 2-0 lead in the third as Alay Lago doubled in a run to get on the board and eventually scored on a Ramon Hernandez sac-fly to center. 

 

Another run came across in the following inning as Colton Pouge roped a fly ball to left-center that resulted in a diving collision between Billy Cooke and Jesus Marriaga. Pouge would score on a throwing error and Cooke would exit the game under his own power. 

 

Gary SouthShore climbed back into the game with a three-run fifth inning capped off by a two-run home run by Tom Walraven, his third of the year, to tie the game at three-a-piece. Walraven would finish with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

 

RailCats’ starter Trevor Lubking suffered the loss in six innings of work as he allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits and four walks with eight strikeouts. 

 

The win went to Taylor Wright who faced six and retired six, five via strikeouts. 

 

Continuing their road-trip, the Gary SouthShore RailCats head to Sioux City, Iowa for a three-game set against the Sioux City Explorers that gets underway at 7:10 p.m. at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
