RailCats Ink Outfielder Williams

Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats continue to build their roster ahead of the 2022 season as Javeyan Williams becomes the team’s newest addition.

Before turning pro, Williams, 24, put together a stellar four-year career at Southern University. As a Jaguar, he compiled a .303 batting average with seven home runs, 85 runs batted in, 21 doubles, 14 triples, 92 walks, and 77 stolen bases. Williams enjoyed his greatest success as a senior in 2019 as he placed second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in triples (7), batting average (.388), fourth in stolen bases (26), fifth in on-base percentage (.470), and 11th in RBI (41). In addition to being honored as an All-Conference First Team selection, Williams led Southern to the SWAC Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division I National Tournament while winning the HBCU National Championship.

The San Francisco Giants took Williams in the 22nd round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, and he spent two seasons in their organization. Most recently, he suited up for the Eugene Emeralds, their High-A affiliate.

“Javeyan was very open with me about his interest in joining the RailCats, and I was more than happy to sign him,” manager Lamarr Rogers said. “I kept hearing great things from some of my MLB contacts about his time with the San Francisco Giants organization: he has excellent speed, he can get on base, and provides a bit of pop. I hope he can display the same level of persistence on the field as he did in grabbing my attention for an opportunity.”

The RailCats 2022 season begins at the Steel Yard on Friday, May 20 vs Lincoln Saltdogs. Season tickets packages and group outings for the 2022 season can be reserved by calling 219-882-2255 or emailing [email protected]
