Gary, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats have signed pitchers Onas Farfan and DJ Wilkinson for the 2023 season.
Farfan, 29 spent the 2022 season with the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the Atlantic League. He posted a 3-3 record with a 3.57 ERA in 46 appearances, three of which were starts. The lefty twirled 68 innings and struck out 59 batters.
“Onas brings versatility as both a starter and reliever and has posted impressive numbers over the last two seasons in the Atlantic League,” said manager Lamarr Rogers. “On top of his versatility, he also brings a lefty specialist role to our RailCats team. It’s my hopes he’ll become a valuable asset to our pitching staff!”
The Minnesota native was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 21st round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft our of Ridgewater Community College. He spent two seasons in the Twins organization playing for the GCL Twins. He went 1-3 in 25 appearances with a 3.91 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
Wilkinson, 24 played for the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League in 2022. He made 19 appearances out of the bullpen. The 6-foot 5-inch right-hander struck out 22 batters in 20 innings pitched. He finished with an impressive 2.70 ERA and 1.350 WHIP.
“DJ comes to us after having positive conversations with scouting contacts who had the opportunity to watch him pitch in the MLB Draft League. He’s a big bodied, hard throwing righty who impressed averaging 93-96mph while at the same time posting impressive statistical numbers. I’m happy to welcome DJ to the ‘Cats family!”
Wilkinson originally from Florida played collegiately at Pensacola State College, Troy University, and Florida A&M. He started in all 15 of his appearances as a senior at FAMU and finished second on the team with 83 strikeouts.
