(Gary, IN) RailCats Manager, Lamarr Rogers, worked out a deal with Ryan Munoz, a fourth-year reliever, to bring him to the SouthShore. Munoz is a lefty reliever that is 25 years old and was born in Puerto Rico.
The southpaw attended the Carlos Beltrán baseball academy before kicking off his college baseball career with the Upper Iowa Peacocks. He pitched in 18 games, 15 being starts, and tossed five complete games. Munoz would move on to pitch for the Southeastern University Fire, an NAIA school in Lakeland, Florida. He was used primarily as a reliever, but in his final year he recorded 11 wins and just one loss, struck out 75, and ate up 66 innings.
For the past three campaigns, the Puerto Rican native was pitching for the New York Boulders in the Frontier League. In 2023 Munoz took the mound in 23 games, 11 of them as the starter. He got through 76.2 innings, punched out 55 hitters, and walked just 26.
“Ryan brings LHP flexibility to the front end & middle of our bullpen where he has experienced his best success as a pro.” Rogers said. “He’s also served previously as a starter which could come in to play as things occur during the season or if a spot start is needed.”
