(Gary,IN) The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the reunion with left-handed pitcher Chris Erwin earlier today.

Erwin is a 28-year-old left-handed pitcher from Georgia. Coming out of high school, Erwin was drafted by the Minnesota Twins, but he elected to go to Kennesaw State. As a member of the Owls, he served as a two-way player and was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team.

In 2019, the lefty signed his first professional contract and split time between the Sussex County Miners and the Florence Freedom. 2021 was his first year with the RailCats, and he finished with 14 appearances and a 3.10 ERA.

In last year’s campaign, Erwin was recognized as the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week after he pitched six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts in a start against the Lake Country DockHounds.

“Before his injury midway during the 2023 season, Chris was among the best-starting pitchers in the American Association.” RailCats Manager Lamarr Rogers said. “He earned American Association pitcher of the week in June and was well on his way to putting together a solid season. I’ll look for him to return to being a key piece to our starting rotation during the 2024 campaign.”

In his first three years with the team, Erwin appeared in 47 contests, starting 36, accumulating 189.1 innings, striking out 186, and having a solid 3.90 ERA.

The RailCats Home Opener is set for May 17, 2024. For season ticket packages and group and hospitality offerings for the 2024 season, call 219-882-2255 or visit railcatsbaseball.com.
