(Gary, IN) Back for a 4:00 start from the Steel Yard for the middle matchup of the three-game series between the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Gary SouthShore RailCats. LHP Dawson Lane got the start against RHP Josh Caravalho.
Jabari Henry, the all-time leader in American Association home runs, hit one in his first at-bat to give the Canaries the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Kevin Watson tied the game in the bottom of the third with a double into center field.
Justin O’Conner dug in with a runner on first and hit his second home run of the season to give the RailCats a 3-1 lead. Dawson Lane struck out nine Canaries in his start and started the top of the seventh inning before being removed from the game. TJ Racherbaumer doubled to scored a run and a close play at home tied the game.
Kevin Watson delivered again in the bottom of the seventh with a ball off the right field wall. Henry hit his second home run in the top of the eighth to tie it. Back-to-back two-out doubles in the top of the ninth from Vos and Mike Hart give Sioux Falls their first lead since going into the bottom of the third.
Charlie Hasty would come in and he walked Colin Summerhill and Korry Howell moved him over on a bunt. Watson grounded out to Hart at first base and with the tying run at third, Canaries Manager would intentionally walk Marc Flores to get to Nick Podkul. After a lengthy battle Podkul hit a line drive that would be caught by Trevor Achenbach.
With the loss the RailCats fall to 38-53 and the Canaries will improve to 45-47. The final game of the series will have the pitching matchup of Nicholi Arbach facing RailCats all-star starter Peyton Long. The ‘Cats will wear specialty jerseys tomorrow for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the jerseys will be a part of a silent auction where fans can bid on the jersey, and all the proceeds go to Breast Cancer research.
